Our Story

Welcome to the Windheim GSP website!  We are not a kennel or commercial breeding operation, but have a passion for dogs, particularly German Shorthaired Pointers.  We happily share that passion and our experience with folks who want to learn more about the breed.

On occasion, we are honored to offer AKC registered German Shorthaired Pointer pups to forever, loving homes that understand the breed.  We strive to produce dogs with exceptional temperaments, superior health and outstanding natural ability for hunting.  You will find some breeders are focused on competition wins, records and awards; others are selling puppies to make money, our attention is on the DOGS.  When choosing dogs to use in our breeding program, we look at longevity and overall health, we look at how cooperative and trainable the dog is, we look at how easy the dog is to live with, we look for hunting and pointing instinct.  Our greatest desire is for our puppies to live long healthy lives as cherished family members and hunting companions.

The saying goes-dogs aren't our whole life, but they make our life whole.  This is indeed the case for us.  We very much enjoy conditioning, training and exhibiting our GSPs in AKC and UKC Conformation shows, Rally Obedience and Pointing Breed Hunting Tests which assess and prove their adherence to the breed standards. And, just for fun, we take them dock diving and run FastCAT trials!  We are also active in local and national GSP clubs and the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association. 

 We are located in the southern Catskills of New York surrounded by woods and trails, the perfect environment to keep several GSPs happy and active!
